Redmond Maintains Snow and Ice Response Plan Amid Winter Weather Concerns

Jan. 6, 2026 — Redmond, WA The City of Redmond operates a comprehensive snow and ice response plan prioritizing emergency facilities, schools, and major routes to ensure public safety during winter storms, with no current declaration of a snow emergency.

The plan deploys four large snowplows to first clear one lane in each direction on arterial roadways, applying calcium chloride, road salt, and sand mixtures.

Neighborhood streets receive attention only after priority routes are fully cleared. Residents can view the priority plow route map.

Redmond maintained Snow and Ice Response plan.

City officials advise avoiding unnecessary travel or allowing extra time, carrying warm clothes, and emergency supplies if driving. Homeowners are urged to clear sidewalks, driveways, and debris from roads to aid plowing operations.

Redmond has declared a state of emergency due to severe snow in the past. In February 2019, then-Mayor John Marchione issued such a declaration due to major snow and ice conditions, activating enhanced response measures.

Recent winter weather impacted the area, with Lake Washington School District extending its year by one day following a December snow day. The city’s weather alert updates page provides ongoing information, though no active snow-related alerts were noted as of the latest checks.

Safety recommendations include stocking food and water, checking smoke and CO detectors, and avoiding downed power lines. The plan emphasizes preparation over reactive emergency declarations for routine winter events.
