Jan. 8, 2026 — Redmond, Wash. The City of Redmond continues its “Redmond is Ready for the World” campaign to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Seattle hosting six matches from June 11 to July 19.
Launched on September 30, 2025, the initiative includes community events, watch party grants, and business support to engage residents, visitors, and local businesses amid expectations of 750,000 regional visitors.
The campaign features programs such as Soccer Stories submissions for prizes, including signed soccer balls, the free FĂştbol for All Speaker Series starting October 27, 2025, and a World Cup Final watch party at Marymoor Park on July 19, 2026.

Activation office hours were held on January 6, 2026, at City Hall to gather ideas and explore partnerships, part of ongoing planning efforts (Eventbrite).
“Redmond is Ready for the World reflects who we are as a city: welcoming, innovative, and connected. As we prepare for next summer, we are proud to showcase Redmond not only as a gateway to the global excitement, but also as a community that embraces diversity, supports our local businesses, and creates lasting connections.”
— Mayor Angela Birney
Community watch party grants, funded separately from general tourism lodging tax allocations, offer $500 to $6,000—up to larger amounts for high-impact events—to support free public viewings during the tournament. Applications remain open until January 15, 2026, via the city’s grant program page, prioritizing events with at least 100 attendees that activate public spaces and foster connections.
Local coverage highlighted the campaign’s launch, describing it as a “strategic campaign designed to bring people together” in a 425 Business article published October 3, 2025. FOX 13 Seattle featured Mayor Birney discussing preparations in an October 1 video segment.
The effort aligns with regional developments, including the spring 2026 opening of Sound Transit’s light rail 2 Line, positioning Redmond as the first stop for fans heading to Seattle matches (Sound Transit announcement). Additional events included a small business strategy session on October 8, 2025, and a World Cup Draw watch party on December 5, 2025, at Archer Hotel.
Residents can follow updates via the city’s eNews or social media, with sponsorship opportunities available for businesses.
