Redmond Library Closes for HVAC and Self-Check System Replacement Through December 25

Nov. 18, 2024 — Redmond, Wash. The Redmond Library, part of the King County Library System, closed Monday for construction to replace its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and the equipment processing materials returned through self-check-in machines, according to a library announcement.

The closure began on November 18 and is expected to last until December 25, with the library scheduled to reopen on December 26.

November 17 marked the final day the building was open, and November 16 was the last day for hold pickups at the location before closure.

During the closure, holds for Redmond patrons are automatically redirected to the Bellevue Library from November 19 through December 19.

Patrons may request transfers to other locations by speaking with staff, and holds receive a one-week extension during transitions. Returns are accepted at any King County Library System location, with no late fines charged.

Programs and events typically held at Redmond will occur at community locations or other libraries, with online options available.

The announcement, initially posted October 28 and updated November 13, noted that dates are subject to change with updates posted as needed.

The Redmond Library Facebook page confirmed the closure on November 18, stating: “Dear Redmond, we are officially closed today, 11/18/2024, for the replacement of our HVAC system and the equipment that supports our self-check-in machines.”

As of January 2026, the library at 15990 NE 85th Street is fully operational with regular hours, including events like Toddler Story Time and English conversation practice, per the library’s location page.
