Jan. 8, 2026 — Redmond, Wash. — Logan Bowers, co-owner of Hashtag Cannabis in downtown Redmond, urged the community to contact city leaders for approval of protective bollards following six smash-and-grab burglaries since September 2023 that have cost the business approximately $500,000 in damages and repairs.
The incidents, all captured on surveillance video, involved thieves ramming stolen vehicles into the storefront to steal merchandise. Bowers described the toll of the repeated attacks.
“It’s a really distressing feeling to be sweeping up glass at four in the morning over and over again,” Bowers told FOX 13 Seattle.
Bowers has requested bollards—metal posts designed to stop vehicles—for over a year and a half, but the city has delayed permitting amid concerns over pedestrian safety and public right-of-way standards.
Temporary concrete eco-blocks were installed, but the city removed some, moved others against the building despite safety warnings, and issued a cease-and-desist order. The eco-blocks remain temporarily during ongoing discussions.
In the most recent incident in February 2025, thieves backed a vehicle into the relocated eco-blocks, causing $30,000 in building damage but failing to enter the store.
“Across all of these crashes and fighting with the city, we’re easily in $500,000 and I would say that the city is probably in $100,000 to $200,000 in taxpayer money to fight us,” Bowers said.
A City of Redmond spokesperson stated:
“The City remains committed to balancing business security needs with pedestrian safety and compliance with public right of way standards. We have been open to and in discussions with Hashtag over the past year and a half to find an agreeable solution. Redmond is continuing in its review of materials from Hashtag for consideration of permitting.”
In April 2025, KING 5 reported that the city had asked the state to deny the shop’s cannabis license renewal due to the burglaries and premises damage, but the request was rejected.
Hashtag Cannabis posted a plea on its website, asking residents to call or email the mayor in support of “common sense crime prevention” after two years of attacks. The business claims the city has sided with criminals over local shops.
Earlier reports documented the progression: the fourth burglary in August 2024 per KIRO 7, and the fifth in September 2024 using a stolen Acura SUV, according to KOMO News.
