Jan. 8, 2026 — Redmond, Wash. Co-owner Logan Bowers of Hashtag Cannabis in downtown Redmond revealed that his store has suffered at least six smash-and-grab burglaries since September 2023, incurring approximately $500,000 in damages, while city regulations have delayed installation of protective bollards.
Bowers publicly pleaded for community support to pressure city officials into approving bollards, metal posts designed to prevent vehicles from ramming the storefront. The business installed temporary concrete eco-blocks, but the city removed some, issued a cease-and-desist order, and relocated others against the building despite safety concerns. A vehicle struck one in February 2025, causing an additional $30,000 in damage.
“It’s a really distressing feeling to be sweeping up glass at four in the morning over and over again.”
— Logan Bowers, co-owner of Hashtag Cannabis
“Across all of these crashes and fighting with the city, we’re easily in $500,000 and I would say that the city is probably in $100,000 to $200,000 in taxpayer money to fight us.”
— Logan Bowers
A city spokesperson responded that Redmond is committed to balancing business security with pedestrian safety and public right-of-way standards, noting ongoing discussions and review of permitting materials from Hashtag since mid-2024, when Resolution RES1599 aimed to streamline bollard approvals.
The saga began with the first incident in September 2023. Subsequent break-in attempts included the fourth in August 2024, covered by KING 5 and KIRO 7, the fifth in September 2024 per KIRO 7, and the sixth on February 14, 2025, when thieves rammed a stolen Hyundai into the front at 2:30 a.m. but failed to enter, as shown in surveillance video.

In April 2025, the city attempted to revoke the shop’s license despite the burglaries, according to KING 5. Bowers has displayed posters urging residents to contact leaders and posted a plea on the business website for support in “common sense crime prevention.”
