Dec. 12, 2025 — Redmond, Wash. Recology and city officials, including Mayor Angela Birney, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 1-3 p.m. at the new Recology store in the Bella Bottega Shopping Center (8862 161st Ave NE, Ste. 104), marking the start of expanded waste and recycling services ahead of Recology’s takeover as the city’s waste hauler on Jan. 1, 2026.
The store provides residents a place to drop off hard-to-recycle items, purchase Waste Zero products, consult sustainability experts, resolve account issues, and pay garbage bills in person. It is part of Redmond’s first waste hauling contract change in over 30 years, approved by the City Council on Aug. 5, 2024, following a competitive bid process where Recology scored highest in price (55%) and service/sustainability (45%). The contract covers the 98052 ZIP code, while 98053 remains under King County’s agreement with Waste Management.
New services include expanded curbside recycling for items like Styrofoam, free bulky item pickups, discounts for vulnerable populations, and a local call center. The city announced the store on Dec. 3, 2025, with details shared on X.

The event was covered by OneRedmond on X post-ceremony, highlighting eco-friendly products and recycling education. Recology’s five King County stores, including the new Redmond location, diverted over 5,000 tons from landfills in 2024, preventing more than 10,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
