Late-night booms woke people across Redmond several times this week, and neighbors say they still haven’t heard a clear explanation.
Reports began around 12:50 a.m., with similar blasts logged at about 12:54 a.m. and later near 1:40 a.m.
Posts on local forums and Reddit placed the sounds in multiple neighborhoods, downtown Redmond, the Willows Road corridor, Bear Creek, Grass Lawn, Union Hill, and areas near Benjamin Rush and Rockwell elementary schools.
Several people also reported bright flashes in the sky just before a boom, which is possibly fireworks.
“It sounded like an explosion,” one resident wrote. Another posted, “CRAZY loud explosion type noise over by the Bear Creek area.
Also, the second one that went off just now had a very bright flash.”
Others described two back-to-back booms, and one person noted their rooftop camera captured “a big white flash followed by a large boom with three smaller booms or echoes about six seconds later with a low rumbling tail.”
Neighbors described a range of reactions: windows rattling, dogs barking, and people running outside to check.
“Everyone in our apartment heard it,” a downtown resident wrote after calling 911.

Some people who listened to police scanners said they did not hear any dispatch about explosions, and several commenters said they saw no visible emergency response.
Speculation about the cause varied. Some suggested fireworks or powerful M80-style devices.
Others wondered whether a transformer had failed after one poster noted a related outage earlier in the week.
A few residents, including someone who follows meteor activity, raised the possibility of a meteor airburst because of flashes seen in the sky. Those ideas remain unconfirmed.
At midday, city authorities had not released a public explanation. No injuries or property damage were reported, and Redmond police had not confirmed a cause.
People who posted footage or sound urged neighbors to preserve what they have.
Community members said doorbell and rooftop cameras may help investigators narrow down a source.
Residents who heard the booms were also asked to report the time and location to police to create a clear pattern officials can follow.
The repeated sounds over a week’s time have left neighbors on edge. “We want a clear answer,” several posters said, asking for an update from city or public-safety officials.
This report is based on community posts and eyewitness comments shared on local forums and Reddit.
If you heard the sound and have video or a precise time and location, contact Redmond police and pass that information along; it can make a real difference in getting a definitive explanation.
