Mountaineers Basketball Caps Off Season with Wins Over Kirkland: D1 Undefeated, D2 Finishes 5–4

Jan 28, 2026, Bellevue, WA. — The Mountaineers closed their basketball season this week with a sweep of visiting Kirkland Seventh-Day Adventist School, leaving the program with a pair of strong finishes.

BASIS Independent Bellevue thanked its teams for their immense performance throughout the year.

The D1 squad completed an undefeated 9–0 campaign, while the D2 team finished 5–4, according to a season recap posted by BASIS Independent Bellevue.

Both teams picked up wins in the finale to send players, coaches, and fans into the offseason on a high note.

The D1 team’s unbeaten run was the headline result for the program, a season-long stretch of steady play and depth that culminated in a decisive performance in the final game.

Mountaineer basketball teams had a standout season.

In that contest, D1 standout Yan X. poured in 20 points in the first half, a finish that highlighted the guard’s scoring consistency and on-court leadership throughout the season.

The D2 squad closed at 5–4 after rallying through a schedule that organizers say showed steady improvement.

Coaches and teammates credited the D2 players with growth over the course of the winter, cleaner execution on both ends, better communication in late-game situations, and deeper bench minutes that helped the team close out close contests.

Program leaders singled out Coach D. for the work he put in across both levels.

BASIS’s recap noted the coach’s emphasis on fundamentals, team defense, and player accountability as key factors in the season’s results.

The season also featured moments that went beyond the scoreboard. A Blackout Game against Billings brought extra energy to the gym and showcased student involvement off the court.

During that home event, Grade 10 students Adham H. and Jeremy D. handled live game announcements.

On the other hand, the members K-Pop Dance Club, Clara J., Melody L., and Helena C., performed between quarters.

Those elements, program officials said, helped build atmosphere and brought more of the school community into the gym on game nights.

BASIS’s season summary framed the year as one of growth and accomplishment.

The undefeated D1 record provides a platform heading into the offseason; organizers suggested that returning players can build on the chemistry and systems established this winter.

For younger players and those on the D2 roster, the final stretch of the schedule offered experience in tight matchups and a clearer sense of the work needed to push the program forward.

Supporters and families were thanked in the recap for their consistent presence at games, and the write-up encouraged players to use the break for rest and targeted skill work.

The program also shared season photos and highlights, including action shots from the Blackout Game and images of student volunteers and performers who helped run game-day operations.

As the winter season wraps up, the Mountaineers’ winning finish, capped by a sweep of Kirkland SDA, gives the program a concise set of takeaways.

The D1 had an invincible season to celebrate, and the D2 team showed progress compared to previous years.
