February 2, 2026 – Redmond, WA. The City of Redmond is inviting residents to take part in a nationwide celebration of American history by contributing their creativity to the America 250 Poster Project, a collaborative initiative supported by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The project marks the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a milestone that will be observed across the country in 2026.
Through this effort, cities are encouraging local artists to reflect on civic pride, shared history, and optimism for the future through original artwork.
Redmond’s participation opens the door for artists of all ages and backgrounds, from grade school students to seasoned professionals, to visually express what the city represents to them.
Submitted posters will celebrate Redmond’s identity, its people, and its role in the broader American story.
Mayor Angela Birney emphasized the importance of community involvement in the project, highlighting Redmond’s strong creative culture.
She noted that the city’s artists bring a wide range of perspectives and talents that help tell Remond’s story in meaningful ways.
According to the Mayor, the America 250 Poster Project provides an opportunity not only to honor the past but also to look ahead to the city’s future.
Residents are encouraged to design posters that convey themes of civic pride, historical connection, and hope for the next 250 years.
While the artistic approach is left entirely to the creator, each submission must include the words “Redmond” and “America 250” and remain nonpartisan in nature.
Political messages or inflammatory content are not permitted under project guidelines.
Artwork must also meet specific size requirements, measuring 24 inches wide by 32 inches high to match the official poster format established by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
A selection of submitted posters will be printed and showcased at Redmond City Hall as part of the city’s America 250 celebration.
In addition, one poster will be chosen by Mayor Birney to represent Redmond on a national level.
The artwork may be featured at public events hosted by the National Endowment for the Arts and the U.S. Conference of Mayors and included in the official America 250 commemorative art book.
City officials see the project as a way to bring the community together around a shared moment in history while giving residents a platform to showcase local talent.
