Redmond Looking for Community Members to Join Arts and Culture Commission

Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond is inviting residents and workers with a passion for creativity, culture, and community engagement to apply for two open seats on its Arts and Culture Commission.

City officials say they are especially interested in applicants who bring diverse perspectives and a strong interest in supporting Redmond’s growing arts scene.

The Arts and Culture Commission plays a key role in shaping Redmond’s cultural identity.

The volunteer body advises City staff and the Redmond City Council on programs and initiatives that strengthen community connections, celebrate diversity, and enhance quality of life through the arts.

This includes a wide range of artistic expressions, from visual and performing arts to participatory and community-based projects.

Currently, the commission is focused on expanding arts opportunities across the city.

Ongoing efforts include supporting the Poet Laureate program, overseeing the Cultural Arts Grant Program, and helping organize the Downtown Redmond Art Walk, which showcases local artists and brings creative energy to the city’s core.

In the coming months, commissioners will also review and make recommendations on several upcoming public art projects planned for Redmond.

All members of the Arts and Culture Commission serve as volunteers and commit to three-year terms.

The open positions are available to individuals who live or work within Redmond City limits and have a 98052 zip code, as well as those who live in unincorporated King County within the 98053 zip code.

Commissioners are expected to actively participate in monthly meetings, which are held on the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Meetings take place in person at Redmond City Hall, with a virtual attendance option available through Microsoft Teams. Attendance at these meetings is mandatory for all members.

Beyond regular meetings, commissioners often serve on special committees, attend public meetings and community events, and collaborate with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department on arts-related projects and programs.

Members may also attend City Council or other commission meetings when arts and cultural topics are discussed.

City staff note that serving on the Arts and Culture Commission offers a meaningful opportunity for community members to contribute to Redmond’s cultural growth while gaining insight into local government processes.

Applications are accepted online at redmond.gov/Commissions. While there is no official deadline, interested individuals are encouraged to apply by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The positions will remain open until they are filled.

Those with questions about the Arts and Culture Commission or the application process can contact Cultural Arts Supervisor Chris Weber at cweber@redmond.gov.
