“Character is Doing the Right Thing When No One is Watching”: Redmond Teen Steps Up to Help Lost Cat

Feb. 10, 2026 – Redmond, Wash. A late-night act of kindness by a Redmond teen is drawing praise from neighbors after she stopped to help a deceased cat in her neighborhood, ensuring the pet’s owner could be notified.

According to community members on social media, the young girl encountered the cat around 11:20 p.m. Rather than walking away, she chose to step in and do what neighbors described as “the right thing when no one is watching.”

Following the incident, many have praised the young girl for her kind nature, with one commenter writing;

Wow what an impresive young lady!! At 11:20 PM took time out to do the right thing!!! CHARACTER IS DOING THE RIGHT THING WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING-great sense of dignity.

Another commenter confirmed that the cat’s owner had been notified, bringing some closure to the heartbreaking situation.

Shortly after, the pet’s owner responded online, writing, “It was our kitty. Thank you for your kindness.”

While the loss of a beloved pet is never easy, many in the Redmond community said the teen’s actions reflect the values that make the neighborhood strong, compassion, responsibility, and looking out for one another, even in difficult moments.
