New Tesla Supercharger Coming Soon to Redmond’s Overlake Fashion Plaza

Very soon!

Permits filed with the city show that Tesla plans to install an eight-stall Supercharger station in the back parking lot of Overlake Fashion Plaza near NE 20th Street.

The site sits roughly half a mile from state Route 520 and would add fast charging in a busy part of Redmond that already offers slower destination chargers and other EV options.

The filing indicates the stalls will use Tesla V3 equipment. Online discussion among local EV owners noted that cabinets are V3, while some believe the stalls could be V4 ready.

That conversation reflects the reality that planning and permitting often lag behind the latest hardware releases.

Observers pointed out that the site appears to have been in the works for some time, which helps explain the choice of equipment.

This new station would join more than 50 Supercharger locations that Tesla already operates across Washington, and more than 40,000 around the world.

In Redmond, drivers can already plug in at slower destination chargers such as the units at the Seattle Marriott Redmond.

The new Supercharger is focused on quick top-ups for people on the move rather than overnight charging at hotels.

Local EV owners raised practical questions online about placement and convenience.

Some asked why the chargers are not being installed across the street at the Fred Meyer plaza, where other chargers are already in place.

Others noted that available space, power access, and permitting constraints often determine where fast chargers end up.

A Reminder of the Previous Incident

Permitting filings suggest Tesla will need to coordinate with the local utility and complete construction and inspection work before the chargers can open.

Modern Supercharger installations often require upgrades to electrical infrastructure, and Tesla typically works with utilities to secure the needed capacity and transformer work.

The permit process also covers parking layout, signage, and accessibility requirements.

A recent notable event in Washington that drivers still remember took place in Lacey in April 2025.

A Supercharger station was damaged in what reports described as an apparent explosion that temporarily took about a dozen stalls offline.

Local police and federal authorities investigated, and Tesla coordinated with the regional utility to restore service.

That incident drew attention to charger security and emergency response planning, even though most sites operate without incident.

If built, the Overlake Fashion Plaza station would offer a convenient option for shoppers and commuters.

With eight fast chargers, several vehicles can charge at once, and drivers can stop to run errands while topping up.

The plaza’s proximity to Route 520 also makes it a logical spot for drivers heading to the Eastside or crossing the bridge.

Representatives for the plaza and Tesla did not provide comment at the time the permits were filed.

Tesla’s official Supercharger map and the company app are the best places to confirm an opening date and to see stall counts once the site is live.

Independent EV trackers and local charging groups also monitor permit filings and construction as projects move forward.

Neighbors and city planners will likely pay attention to a few practical details as the project advances.

These include how the charging stalls are arranged, whether the project meets stormwater and accessibility rules, and the timeline for any utility upgrades.

Construction schedules can be affected by permitting reviews and the need to order and install electrical equipment.

For now, the permit filing is the clearest sign that a high-speed charging option could be coming to the heart of Redmond’s retail corridor.

Drivers who depend on fast public charging will be watching for updates as the city processes the permit and Tesla finalizes its utility arrangements.

Once the station appears on Tesla’s live map, the public will have the first official notice that the chargers are ready for use.
