Redmond Addresses Community Concerns About ICE Presence, Outlines Limits of Local Authority

Feb. 3, 2026 – Redmond, Wash. The City of Redmond has issued a public statement addressing growing community concerns about the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the region, emphasizing transparency about what the city can and cannot control.

City officials clarified that federal agencies, including ICE, operate under federal authority. The City of Redmond does not direct federal operations and does not receive advance notice of federal enforcement activity.

The city outlined clear boundaries regarding its own role. Redmond Police and other city staff do not enforce civil federal immigration law.

The city follows Washington State’s Keep Washington Working Act, which limits state and local law enforcement involvement in civil immigration enforcement and sets strict guidelines for cooperation and information sharing.

Officials also noted that Redmond safeguards all city systems and data. Any request for city-held information must go through the required legal review and established processes before any action is taken.

In response to community concerns, the city said it remains focused on public safety, constitutional policing, and ensuring that all residents feel safe reporting crimes, seeking help, and accessing city services without fear.

City departments are coordinating internally to ensure practices remain compliant with Washington state law and aligned with community expectations.

Residents can call 911 if they feel they are in immediate danger. Those who wish to report observed activity or share concerns in Redmond can contact the Redmond Police Department’s non-emergency line at 425-556-2500 for review and follow-up.

The city also encouraged residents to learn more about immigration-related resources available in Redmond and to review guidance provided by the Washington State Attorney General.
