January 30, 2026 – Redmond, WA. The City of Redmond has completed its City Council lineup for the 2026-2027 term with the appointment of Sayna Parsi to fill the vacant Position #1 seat, city officials announced this week.
The position had remained open since the resignation of Councilmember Osman Salahuddin in November.
Parsi, a Redmond resident and longtime community volunteer, was selected following a competitive application and interview process that drew more than 35 local applicants.
Current City Council members voted unanimously, 6-0, to appoint her to the role. She was officially sworn in during the most recent City Council meeting and started serving immediately.
Wth Parsi’s appointment, Redmond’s City Council is now fully seated and ready to move forward with its work for the next two years.
Alongside the new appointment, the City also confirmed new Council leadership for the 2026-2027 term.
Councilmember Melissa Stuart has been elected Council President, while Councilmember Angie Nuevacamina will serve as Vice President through 2027.
The leadership transition follows two-year terms previously held by Councilmembers Vanessa Kritzer and Jessica Forsythe.
Mayor Angela Briney congratulated the incoming leadership and expressed appreciation for the outgoing Council officers.
She also welcomed the newest members of the Council, noting the importance of collaboration and continuity as the City looks ahead.
In November’s general election, Redmond voters selected Vivek Prakriya to represent Council Position #2 and Menka Soni to represent Position #6.
Both are serving on the City Council for the first time, with terms extending through 2029.
Parsi brings prior city experience to her new role, having previously served on Redmond’s Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission.
Council President Melissa Stuart thanked the many residents who applied for the open seat, describing the process as both thorough and inspiring.
She said candidates demonstrated strong dedication to public service and a clear passion for the Redmond community.
Stuart noted that Parsi’s experience, technical knowledge, and history of civic engagement positioned her well to step into the role and contribute immediately.
Parsi will serve the remainder of the Position #1 term, which runs through 2027. At that point, the seat will be up for election.
