Redmond City Council Reviews Applicants for Vacant Position #1 After November Resignation

Jan. 17, 2026 — Redmond, Wash. The City of Redmond’s City Council is currently reviewing applicants to fill the vacant Position #1, which opened following the resignation of Councilmember Osman Salahuddin in early November 2025.

The city announced the vacancy on Nov. 4, 2025, noting Salahuddin’s service since 2023 and his term through Dec. 31, 2027. Mayor Angela Birney thanked Salahuddin for his contributions and affirmed the council’s commitment to filling the seat without interruption.

“Osman has been an honor to represent Redmond,” Salahuddin said. “I have a lifelong connection to this community and am grateful for the trust placed in me. I intend to continue serving the community.”

Council President Vanessa Kritzer praised Salahuddin’s “energy, dedication and perspective.”

On Nov. 19, 2025, the city detailed the application process, open to residents in the 98052 zip code who are at least 18 years old and registered U.S. voters. Applications closed at noon on Jan. 2, 2026, with first-round interviews held on Jan. 13 and final interviews for top candidates scheduled for Jan. 20. The council will vote that evening, with Mayor Birney breaking ties; the appointee could be sworn in immediately.

The City Council page confirms Position #1 remains vacant amid the review process.

Current members include Melissa Stuart (Position #4, President), Angie Nuevacamina (Position #7, Vice President), Jessica Forsythe (Position #3), Vanessa Kritzer (Position #5), Vivek Prakriya (Position #2), and Menka Soni (Position #6).
