Redmond City Council Tackles Infrastructure, Safety Initiatives at January 6 Meetings

Jan. 6, 2026 — Redmond, Wash. The Redmond City Council conducted a Committee of the Whole session on Planning and Public Works at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular Business Meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall (15670 NE 85th St.), reviewing capital projects, safety studies, utility upgrades, and administrative updates as outlined in the city’s extended meeting calendar.

The Committee session featured a 2025 Q4 Capital Investment Program (CIP) status update, highlighting progress on 33 active projects, including Willows Road watermain extension, wastewater pipe rehabilitation, stormwater pond repairs, and safer streets efforts such as Bel-Red buffered bike lanes, NE 70th Street shared use path, ADA curb ramps, and sidewalk repairs along Avondale Way.

Other Committee items included a resolution documenting completion of the Redmond 2050 Comprehensive Plan update (CM 26-001), proposed amendments to pay plans for executive and non-represented staff, and a fifth amendment to the Gallagher services contract for payroll backup.

The Business Meeting agenda packet included nominations and appointments for council leadership (SPC 25-101) and a consent calendar with staff-recommended approvals, such as:

  • A $3.72 million contract with Technical Systems Inc. for control systems and telemetry upgrades at water facilities, including a wastewater lift station (AM 26-001).
  • A $152,207 consultant agreement with DKS Associates for the Citywide Safe Speed Study, focusing on speed management, crash analysis, speed limit frameworks, and traffic calming recommendations agenda packet.
  • A $603,071 contract with HSO for D365 financial system support (AM 26-003).
  • A 2026-2028 collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 117 for police lieutenants (AM 26-004).

Public comment opportunities were provided during both sessions.

Weekly Headways noted the council’s discussion of its safer streets action plan at the 7 p.m. meeting, aligning with the Safe Speed Study item.

The day after, the City of Redmond X account announced proposed updates to Municipal Code Titles 13 (water, wastewater, stormwater) and 15 (buildings, construction), plus Water and Wastewater System Extensions Design Requirements, now open for public review and comment.

Multiple sections of the Redmond Municipal Code (RMC) are being updated, including the rules regulating water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure (Title 13) and buildings and construction (Title 15). The changes are currently open for review and comment.
