Redmond High School’s 2014 ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ Production Earns 5th Avenue Theatre Awards

June 11, 2014 — Redmond, Wash. Redmond High School Theatre Arts Department garnered recognition at the 5th Avenue Theatre High School Musical Awards for its production of Singin’ in the Rain, with senior Alex Gossard winning Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Non-Singing Role for portraying R.F. Simpson.

The ceremony, held June 9 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, honored the best high school musical theater productions in Washington state.

Juniors Nora DeWater and sophomore Erich Schleck also received honorable mentions for choreography, according to the Redmond Reporter and RHS Drama website.

The full-scale production ran for six performances starting late February 2014 at the school’s Performing Arts Center, 17272 NE 104th St. Final shows were scheduled for March 6, 7, and 8 at 7 p.m., with $10 tickets available at the door and half-price admission on March 6, as promoted in a Redmond Reporter follow-up article.

A preview in the Redmond Reporter highlighted rehearsals of the “Dueling Cavalier” scene, featuring leads Conner York as Don Lockwood and Heather Loschen as Lina Lamont, alongside ensemble members Aliya Suleman, Kaelyn Melrose, Tamara Trbojevic, Mekhala Bijawat, Nicole Sarwono, Liza Vaughn, Ember Johnston, Gina Yatsenko, and Tomm Firstenberg.

The 2013-2014 season show was directed by Heather McDevitt and is listed among past productions on the RHS Drama history page. Additional coverage appeared in BroadwayWorld Seattle and Seattle’s Child, confirming Gossard’s win and other nominations.
