July 23, 2025 — Redmond, Washington — Andrew D. Stanisci, 39, a Redmond resident, was convicted by a jury on July 7 of first-degree manslaughter, unlawful imprisonment, removal or concealment of a body, first-degree identity theft, first-degree theft, and forgery in connection with the death of 68-year-old Joel Godino, whose remains were found in a suitcase in a Redmond apartment in March 2023, the Redmond Police Department announced.
Evidence presented during the trial showed Stanisci physically abused, drugged, isolated, and financially exploited Godino over an extended period, including confining him to a closet and denying basic care, according to investigation details released by police.
After Godino’s death, Stanisci hid the body for two months, posted a false note on the apartment door to delay discovery, transferred nearly $10,000 from Godino’s bank accounts, and forged checks.
The King County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as acute drug intoxication, with blunt force trauma and cardiovascular disease as contributing factors. The manner of death was undetermined due to decomposition.
The conviction followed a year-long investigation by Redmond police detectives, who credited witness reports for key evidence.
“This case is a tragic example of sustained abuse and exploitation of a vulnerable individual. Our detectives worked tirelessly to uncover the truth and ensure accountability. We are grateful to those who came forward and provided critical information that helped bring justice in this heartbreaking case.”
