Feb. 10, 2026 – Redmond, Wash. A Redmond-based nonprofit organization is inviting young writers from around the world to participate in a virtual short story competition that offers gift cards, publication opportunities, and free feedback for winning entries.
The Future Scholar Foundation (FSF), a nonprofit founded in Redmond, hosts a monthly writing competition that encourages elementary and middle school students to submit short stories of up to 350 words based on a themed prompt.
Submissions are accepted through the 28th of each month, with results released on the first of the following month.
Winners receive prizes, including Amazon gift cards ranging from $60 for first place to smaller amounts for runner-ups, and their stories are published in the foundation’s online Hall of Fame.
FSF’s competitions are free to enter and open to young writers aged approximately 4–14, with participants from multiple countries taking part in the program.
Previous contests have featured guest judges such as bestselling authors and have connected students with a global audience of readers.
The foundation also offers workshops and coaching programs alongside the monthly competitions, helping students develop writing skills and gain confidence.
FSF’s efforts have reached thousands of students in dozens of countries and have drawn support from educators and media outlets alike.
