Redmond Police Fatally Shoot Armed Woman After 911 Call Reporting Intruder

Sept. 20, 2020 — Redmond, WA Redmond police officers fatally shot a 39-year-old woman who confronted them with a handgun on the balcony of her apartment in the 8700 block of 161st Ave NE, following her 911 call reporting an intruder trying to kill her.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:23 p.m. on Sunday. The woman had called 911, claiming someone was in her apartment. Officers responding to the call located her on the upper-floor balcony of the residence. She identified herself as the caller and stated she had possibly shot someone inside.

During the interaction, the woman confronted the officers with a handgun, leading to multiple shots being fired by police. She was struck several times and pronounced dead at the scene despite officers immediately administering CPR and requesting medical aid.

No other individuals were found in the apartment, and none of the officers were injured, according to the Redmond Police Department newsflash.

As is standard for officer-involved shootings, the King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Future updates will be released through that agency. The case number is Redmond Police Case #20-017839.
